J.K Rowling

Author of Harry Potter Series

Joanne Kathleen Rowling is a British author, better known by her pen name J. K. Rowling, and screenwriter best known for her eight-book Harry Potter children's book series. The series has sold more than 500 million copies and was adapted into a blockbuster film franchise.

She's also considered the world's first billionaire author.

Her books were first published by Bloomsbury Children's Books in June 1997, under the name J.K. Rowling. The “K” stands for Kathleen, her paternal grandmother's name. It was added at her publisher's request, who thought a book by an obviously female author might not appeal to the target audience of young boys.

She is also the founder and president of the international children's non-profit organization Lumos, which works to end the institutionalization of children globally and ensure all children grow up in a safe and caring environment.

"It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default."

"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
